Mighty Falcons,

Welcome to the 2nd week of the 5th Six Weeks! I personally think that we had a stupendous first week of this six weeks because all of you are turning in your work on time and are being proactive towards the math lessons. All it takes is time management and applying yourself to your studies so that assignments do not pile up on you and trust me you will find success.

This week we will assess all properties of operations: inverse, identity, commutative, associative, and distributive properties. We will then proceed to the idea of what it really means to have equality by engaging students in a balance scale scenario and connecting it to equivalent expressions on either side of an equal sign. Students will also begin to explore one step equations with one variable.

Remember we are having tutorials this Saturday; try your very best to be here.

Reminders:

Try your best not to be absent so that you do not fall behind.

Be Unique!

Be the best version of yourself everyday!

Extra Credit Due March 3: Write 20 important details on solving one-step equations from the following video. Also, write down the steps to solving one-step equations.

Mighty Falcons,

Welcome to the 5th Six Weeks! I can not believe how fast this school year is going, I feel that time is of the essence and we have a lot of work to do. Continue to come to my class during recess and tutorials for math enrichment purposes.

This week we will distinguish between expressions and equations verbally, numerically, and algebraically and  determine if two expressions are equivalent using concrete models, pictorial models, and algebraic representations.  We will also  generate equivalent expressions using the properties of operations: inverse, identity, commutative, associative, and distributive properties.

Watch the following video and write down 16 important facts you have learned about operation properties.

Reminders:
Bring in $3 and permission slip for Friday's Starr County Youth Fair Visit.
Try your best to be here everyday so that you do not fall behind.

Mighty Falcons,

Welcome to the last week of the 4th Six Weeks. Remember you will be taking your  Math 4th Six Weeks Common Assessment on Wednesday. It is required that you review topics 6, 7, and 8 on Agilemind and go over all your notes. Your test will consist of converting measurements from both customary system and metric systems, classifying rational numbers, integers, opposites, absolute value, graphing on the coordinate plane, and independent and dependent variables. Make sure you are prepared and ask me for help if necessary. I am available during recess on non-testing days.

Make sure to turn in all your work before the 5 day late policy so that your grade will not suffer. Attendance is of utmost importance so try your very  best not to miss out on school. Remember to go to sleep early and eat breakfast before taking your tests. Try your best on every test and continue to show us that anything is possible with hard work.

Go over the following videos to review for next weeks test.

Reminders:

Week of January 30-February 3, 2017

Dear Falcons,

Welcome to the 4th week of the six weeks! I know time is flying and we must remained focus no matter what. Make sure to continue working hard and turning in all your work on time.

This week we will continue to work with classifying numbers and have a short quiz on opposites, absolute value, and the number system on Tuesday. Make sure to go over your material so that you earn a good grade.

I know you have anxiously been waiting to start the "My Classroom Economy," ongoing class project. Students will begin applying for their classroom jobs this week.

Through My Classroom Economy, students learn valuable life skills in an experiential way.
Specifically, they are able to:
  • Take part in a simulation of real-world economic activity.
  • Learn the value of earning a paycheck, as they bank the salaries from their jobs.
  • Learn how to budget their spending, manage a loan, balance a checking account, and make scheduled payments.
  • Discover the importance of saving money to obtain what they want.
  • Find out that every decision has an opportunity cost.
At this grade level, students earn and spend dollar amounts of three and four digits to match their math skills. They are also given more responsibility to maintain financial records—for example, bank slips for deposits and withdrawals—to emphasize the importance of recordkeeping and attention to detail. The documents also provide key data for reflection during the year-end wrap-up. *This project also covers TEKS that will benefit the students for the Math STAAR.

Reminders:
Peter Piper Pizza Progress Report Night from 4-6pm-February 1st.
Panoramic Picture-February 1st. Bring $12 if you would like to purchase it.
Attend the next tutorial session on February 11 from 8am to 12 pm.
Continue to come to my room during recess for extra help. We are always here to help all it takes is for you to ask for it.
Try your best to be at school everyday so that you do not fall behind.
Be awesome!

The following pictures show students converting measurements by using both customary and metric systems with real life objects.

Week of January 23-27, 2017

Dear Falcons,

I am very proud of how hard you've been working this new six weeks. I know I sometimes have to remind a few of you to stay alert so that you do not fall behind in the math lesson and you are good at diving back into the lesson right away. Remember that those who stay focused are the ones that usually earn an A Plus in Math class, and I know you will continue to do so.

This week we will review last weeks lesson on converting measurements from both customary and metric systems and have a short mini assessment on Tuesday about Converting Measurements, multiplying and dividing rational numbers and reciprocals.

We will begin classifying whole numbers, integers, and rational numbers using visual representation such as Venn diagram to describe relationships between sets of numbers on Wednesday. Please try your best not to be absent so that you do not miss out.

I encourage every student to go over your Agilemind slides by logging into riogrande,agilemind.com everyday so that you get extra practice and feel better prepared towards the lesson.

Please check the following video out to get ahead of the lesson and be prepared for the lesson.

Extra Credit Due by January 27, 2017:  List 12 Important Facts you learned about Classifying Numbers through this video.

Reminders:
$12 for Panoramic Picture- Picture will be taken February 1st.
Tutorial starting date will be announced soon.
Try your best to be at school everyday.
Continue to come for help during recess if need be or asked to.
