Mighty Falcons,

    Welcome back to the 2nd semester of your sixth grade year! We hope you have made many special memories with friends and family this holiday season.

     We must now prepare for what is next, this semester will fly by and we must be ready to conquer all content lessons in each class. We will begin working with expressions, combining like terms, algebraic properties, and also continue to review vocabulary from topic 8.


      I expect each of you to try your very best in everything that you do and to always go the extra mile no matter what. Remember to ask for help when in need. Small sacrifices will help you to succeed in both academics and life.

Watch the following videos to prepare for the upcoming lessons. Write down 10 important facts you have learned from each video. Due on Thursday, January 11, 2018.

Falcons,

       Welcome to the last school week of the first semester. The school year is flying by in a blink of an eye. We have seen you grow academically and look forward to what is next. I am very proud of your benchmark scores. Your scores were reasonable being that only a portion of the questions have been taught by now; remember we still have a lot of work to do, so stay alert!

         This week we will continue working with equations and expressions. Make sure you are following topic 8 on Agilemind to stay ahead of the game. Remember to work hard in silence and let success be your noise.

       This week you will be taking your District Benchmark #1 for Reading and Math, you will also be taking your six weeks tests for History, Science and Writing. Please ensure to try your very best on each test and use your time wisely, there are no awards for those who finish first. Use all your strategies your teachers have taught you and focus 100% of the time. Week of December 4-8, 2017

Mighty Falcons,

     It is almost the end of the first semester and I know you will continue to work hard. 
Remember you will be taking your math district benchmark on Monday, December 11 and Reading on Tuesday, December 12. Make sure you have gone over all your notes, activities, tests, topics 1-8 on Agilemind, etc. I know not all test material has been covered but make sure you try your very best and read carefully so that you do well. 


This week we will begin working with expressions and variables, we will also be having mini-reviews on Thursday and Friday for Monday's District Benchmark.

          I hope everyone had a restful Thanksgiving break filled with many special memories.

           This week in math class we will go over the classification of numbers and begin working with rational numbers on the coordinate plane. District Benchmark #1 is around the corner so we must ensure to be prepared with all taught lesson material and strategies.

Week of November 6-10,2017

Mighty Falcons,

  Welcome to the last week of the 2nd six weeks! You will be taking your math 2nd six weeks test this Tuesday, remember to complete your review and go over Agilemind slides and notes. I know you will do great if you work carefully and believe in yourselves at all times!

        The test will consist of topic 4-6 from Agilemind which includes fractions, decimals, percents, dividing and multiplying positive rational numbers, and converting measurements. All late assignments should have already been turned in, remember we follow the 5 day late district policy. Remember to be responsible and organized!

Math Assignment: Write down 5 facts you learned from each video. Make sure you watch each video from start to finish.

Week of October 30-November 3, 2017

Mighty Falcons,


    Welcome to the 4th week of the 2nd six weeks. Progress report grades will be stored this week so ensure you have turned in all your assignment, remember you have up to 5 days to turn in late work. Responsibility and organization are key in middle school. Topic 5 test will be given Monday of this week, review your notes and agilemind online lessons. Test will consist of multiplying and dividing fractions and decimals. 

Check out the video to review for topic 5 test. Disregard notes about negative numbers,  our focus is positive rational numbers at this time. 




EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY: 

Create a full poster about multiplying and dividing fractions/decimals. Be extra neat and type out the information and strategies. Use pictures and make sure the poster clearly explains each of the mathematical aspects given. Use our math vocabulary and strategies. Due by Thursday, November 2, 2017.  Note: Extra credit opportunities are not given every week so take advantage when available.

Progress Report Card Pick Up on Thursday at Peter Piper from 4 to 6 pm.

        Welcome to the 2nd week of the 2nd six weeks. It is important to continue working hard and to always do your very best no matter what.


    This week we will locate and order fractions, decimals, and percents on a number line. We will also begin multiplying fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals. If time permits we will also begin working on dividing fractions.

Extra Credit Opportunity: Write down 15 facts you learned from the video and create 3 sample problems with work.

Week of October 9-13, 2017

   You survived your 1st six weeks of your middle school lives! The 2nd six weeks will consist of higher expectations, I expect nothing but your best efforts inside and outside our classroom! Remember we all learn as a family and we should not be afraid to make mistakes, mistakes are proof that we are learning. This week we will be comparing, locating, and ordering fractions, decimals, and percents on a number line. We will also represent percents with concrete models, ten by ten grids, and strip diagrams. Make sure you are extra attentive and ask for guidance if need be so that you do not fall behind.

Check out the following video to learn more about our math lesson.
Extra Credit: Create an interactive math game that involves the comparison of fractions, decimals, and percents. Ex: Gameboards, bingo, active games, etc. I prefer you to type out questions for neatness and organization. Include instructions. Be Creative and have fun! Due by Monday, October 16, 2017. NOTE: EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITIES WILL NOT BE OFFERED EVERY WEEK SO TAKE ADVANTAGE WHEN POSSIBLE. EXTRA POINTS NEVER HURT ANYONE!

*First payment for 6th grade end-of-year field trip due by Monday, October 16. First payment is $50. If you wish to pay the full amount of $100 please do so by Monday too.
*Bring in $5 by October 20 for AC2E MS FALL FESTIVAL which will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017.  Class representatives bring in a small cake.
*Try your best to be at school everyday! One day missed means class lessons missed.
* UIL Ready Writing practice for RMS students will be on Mondays from 3:50 to 4:50pm.

Week of October 2-6, 2017

Mighty Falcons,


     Welcome to the last week of the first six weeks! I cannot believe how fast time is going and how amazing you guys are; I am still learning more about you but it is all about growing and learning together, we are a Falcon family no matter where we go.

     You will be taking your first six weeks test this week, your math test will be on Tuesday. Make sure you are prepared and have gone over first three lessons on Agilemind, including converting fractions, decimals, and percents, math notes, and any extra help available. Make sure you have no missing assignments and have turned everything in before the 5 day late policy deadline.

Reminders:
-Try your best to be at school everyday.
-Wear Blue on Monday in honor of Anti-Bullying.
-Topic 3 Agilemind due by Wednesday at 10:00pm.
-Students who sold 15 or more dozens of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts will be going to Peter Piper Pizza on Friday! Have fun you deserve it!

     Welcome to the fifth week of the first six weeks. Six weeks tests will be given next week; make sure you stay on top of things and review all notes including first three topics shown in riogrande.agilemind.com and practice how to convert fractions, decimals and percents. 


Extra Credit: Write rules and examples of how to convert fractions, decimals, and percents on a half poster board. Be neat and creative! No messy work will be accepted. Due by Monday! Use your notes!
