HONOR OUR VETERANS!

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 10-14, 2014

Welcome to the 3rd Six Weeks Mighty Falcons!!

This six weeks will be all about working hard and giving it your all no matter what. We have a lot of work to do and we can't slack off.  YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO SLACK OFF STUDENTS, THERE ARE STILL A FEW OF YOU THAT DON'T WORRY ABOUT YOUR GRADES UNTIL THE END OF THE SIX WEEKS AND I DO NOT APPRECIATE THAT, BECAUSE I KNOW YOU ARE A LOT BETTER THAN THAT!! I know some of you showed a lot of progress this past 2nd six weeks and I am very proud of you!  I am here as always to help you in whatever you may need for my class and outside of class.

This week we will be working on PEMDAS/ ORDER OF OPERATIONS that will include integers. LEARN your integer rules by heart and I guarantee you won't have any trouble!

We will also begin working with Ratios and Unit rates.

Example: A Recipe for pancakes uses 3 cups of flour and 2 cups of milk.

So the ratio of flour to milk is 3 : 2
To make pancakes for a LOT of people we might need 4 times the quantity, so we multiply the numbers by 4:
3×4 : 2×4 = 12 : 8
In other words, 12 cups of flour and 8 cups of milk.
The ratio is still the same, so the pancakes should be just as yummy.

Unit Rates
A rate is a ratio that is used to compare different kinds of quantities.
A unit rate describes how many units of the first type of quantity corresponds to one unit of the second type of quantity.
Some common unit rates are miles (or kilometers) per hour, cost per item, earnings per week, etc. In each case the first quantity is related to 1 unit of the second quantity.
